Sydney to Surfers Paradise Charity Ride

May 30, 2023 | Community

Have you ever participated in a charity ride? It’s a great way to support a cause while doing something you love. This month, Jason, our Engineering and Technology Manager, rode in the Sydney to Surfers Paradise ride for charity. We are excited to support his cause.

About the ride and charity

The Sydney to Surfers Paradise ride is a gruelling bike ride that takes place over seven days. It’s not for the faint of heart, but Jason and his fellow riders were more than up for the challenge. There were around eighty riders who completed the ride, starting in Hornsby and finishing at Sea World.

“Other than two hours of rain when we left Sydney, we had near-perfect conditions for the ride. There were a few days of 15km/h Southerly winds too (perfect)! We did 991km over the seven days and rode through some amazing parts of New South Wales. Much of the ride route was different to previous years due to road restrictions. However, it was great to zig-zag our way up the coast and support local communities (and pubs!). I travelled with three friends I usually ride with from Wollongong. We met many new friends and had lots of laughs along the way.’’ Jason explained.

The charity that Jason rode for was Youth Off The Streets. He was committed to raising as much money as possible to support their work and did a great job. He raised over $3400 for the charity. Youth Off The Streets is a not-for-profit youth organisation that works with young people, their families, and communities. Their main goal is to ensure youth are not homeless. They endeavour to create safety, offer support, and provide opportunities to build a positive future.

Results

“Thank you to each of you for your kind donations towards Youth off the Streets. What was great to see was the first-hand impact that the program has on kids doing it tough. We had six kids join us on the ride to Surfers. The longest they had ridden before the ride was 30km. So, it was a big effort and great to see their confidence and resilience to persist as best they could. Over the past 23 years, the ride has raised around $3M for Youth off the Streets.”

Jason’s ride was amazing. Crossing the finish line was a great achievement for himself, other riders, and kids within the program. It’s been great to see everyone support him and this cause. Jason’s efforts are definitely a great way to make a difference in the world.
