Boiler Laboratory Analysers Upgrade

METALS | PORT KEMBLA, NSW

In brief, a local steelmaker engaged both our engineering and electrical teams to work on their boiler laboratory analysers upgrade project. As such, our teams worked closely with the steelmaker to evaluate and also refurbish their existing laboratory. To explain, the laboratory is used to sample all the boiler feed and also cooling water requirements at their energy services plant. As such, the boiler laboratory requires both efficient and precise technology for optimal operation.

The project included end-to-end project management, which went from the initial concept requirements through to installation and re-commissioning. Our team was guided by project managers and also technical staff to design, construct, install and also service the boiler laboratory analysers upgrade.

The plant is up and running with the new controllers and also analysers. Notably, the project allowed our team to reuse some existing analysers.

Scope

  • Investigate existing laboratory analyser sampling systems and wiring to determine requirements and project scope.
  • Design power, controls, and also piping within the new room. In doing so, allow for the placement of equipment and other elements within the new space.
  • Supply and install all control hardware and panels.
  • Plan, source, and also install backplanes and drains.
  • Carry out all stainless steel tubing fabrication and installation.
  • Test off-site and site acceptance testing (SAT) functions.
  • Integrate with the existing control system on-site.

Control systems

  • Yokogawa Centum Control System CS3000 for monitoring, control, and history of operations.
  • Re-use some existing analysers and also supply new analysers.

Deliverables

  • New controls improve the recipe and adjustable sample sequences.
  • Relocation of facilities while the plant is still online with no shutdown.
  • Changeover of the system within “normal time” operating windows, for example, 4 hours.
  • Most importantly, our team achieved all cost, schedule, and performance targets.
