Enhancing Remote Collaboration During the Pandemic
Triple i has recently invested in a powerful server unit installed at our head office. This investment is part of our growth and Digital Transformation (DX) Journey.
This server is running as a Hypervisor, meaning that it does not have its operating system. Rather, it can have many different operating systems living within a single machine. This allows Triple i to use a variety of different machines, in one location, at the same time.
In the past, when developing Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) code, our Engineers used their computers to communicate directly with PLCs. This reconfiguring and connecting wastes valuable development time. Having this server communicate directly with the PLCs, at all times, means that it is only configured once.
This server allows Triple i to create an exact copy of a customer’s system. By creating a replica of a customer’s system, we ensure that the tested system will work seamlessly when installed on-site.
Triple i Engineers can connect directly to this server from anywhere in the world, representing another significant advantage. This has been particularly important during the COVID-19 pandemic, as most Engineers were working from home. Giving Engineers the ability to develop and evaluate PLC code on physical hardware ensures continuity of design, even throughout the pandemic.
Consolidating Software Development for Efficiency
Having this machine has meant that Triple i has been able to consolidate all the software development. This means that all the software and licenses are stored in one location, rather than over multiple machines.
This innovative approach has centralised the way that Engineers communicate with PLCs and manage licenses. The main benefits are streamlining development and increasing up-time. At Triple i, we are on a continual growth and expansion journey, fuelled by our DX strategy.
