FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT ARE PANORAMIC OR 36O DEGREE PHOTOS?
There are two main types of photos used to depict your plant and equipment in ARDI-360.
36O Degree Panoramic Photos
Traditional panoramic photos include a 360 degree loop horizontally, but only approximately 90 degrees vertically. These photos are acceptable to use in ARDI-AR, however, the limited vertical view means black areas may show above and below the user, making a less effective and immersive experience.
Panoramic photos can be taken with most smartphones, compact digital and DSLR cameras.
72O Degree VR Photos
A 720 degree VR camera is one with more than one lens which produce rectilinear images. These images look distorted until they are uploaded into a 3D platform or tool such as ARDI-360 and ARDI-VE.
The GoPro Fusion or Max is our recommended camera for capturing ARDI-360 footage. It is ideal for industrial settings as it is compact, waterproof, shockproof and dust proof. They have voice control, corrects your final videos for true north and have some editing features which can simplify your workflow with ARDI-36O.
HOW DO I CREATE FOOTAGE FOR ARDI-36O?
Capturing footage for ARDI-360 can be easy with 360 cameras, or by simply sing your smartphone.
As mentioned, when selecting a 360 camera, we generally suggest the GoPro Fusion or, newer version, Max. An alternative is to use your smartphone, and the Cardboard Camera application by Google, which allows you to take simple panoramic photographics to use in ARDI-360.
Once you have your equipment ready, its time to plan your route through your site. Consider the purpose of the task, write notes, and create a visual of when and where images were taken.
HOW DO I ADD ASSETS AND WALKWAYS TO MY 36O PHOTOS?
To turn your videos and images to a working 3D environment we offer a 360 Tool for Windows. This tool works along-side Pano2VR from Garden Gnome Software, which helps make constructing your virtual plant fast and effortless. You can mark-up your photos by highlighting each asset and the walkways between.
